B5254t hard cooling hoses

Post by radek93 »

Is it normal? It has been like this for 5 years and 80,000 km. Heats inside. Co2 test than does not show.

Based on what I've seen on my '97 855, using OEM Volvo hoses, I would say it's not normal for good radiator hoses to be hard. New OEM hoses are definitely soft and pliable. With age, the hoses sometimes become harder. Sometimes the hoses have a date code stamped or printed on them. You could check to see if your hoses have a code on them. If they are really old, that could explain why they are hard.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94

They are hard after heating. Nothing else happens. The fluid does not disappear. Does not throw through the cap. Maybe the cap does not release excess pressure?

Yes but V70 II B5244T3 has softer hoses. I can clamp the hose halfway. In my engine, just push a little.

With a normal functioning rad cap, those hoses will be under 21psi of pressure. 2/3 the pressure that your tires have. I'd be more looking into the other car on why it's not building pressure in the cooling system.
