Windshield side trim

Post by Georgeandkira »

I've a 2007 V70 which has loose windshield molding on it's right side.

This is the 37mm (1-7/8") body colored molding with the black accent on the inboard side. It travels up to a point beneath the Eurorails forward foot.

Is there a clip under it which has vanished?

Is this where those yellow clips go?

Thanks

Thanks for the part numbers.

Do you know if I can work these clips into place with the trim piece essentially in place? While driving it lifts but it's still attached at the windshield's base and at the roof.

Thanks

You can break the clips by pulling the trim away, install new clips and see how to maneuver the trim to install it back. Pay attention to the rubber piece on the trim, it is usually dried out and is extremely easy to crack.

I would also by extra clips, just in case...

+WYM!

In an effort to restore deteriorated rubber lip along the trim molding, I quickly learned that the old clip itself did not survive the trim removal step. DO NOT USE SCREW DRIVER. Use trim tools.

Use new clips for the trim molding to seat as intended, else wind will blow it open and fly off like a flash.

I use "303 rubber seal protectant" on all rubber pieces 2-3 times a year. Easy to apply and the rubber does not crack that easy anymore.

Oh yes. The trim began speaking to me at highway speeds. I have an attractive length of packing tape holding my molding in place.

The inboard (black "rubber") edge of these moldings is dry and crumbling. I'm resigned to living with that.

Will these clips just pop into place? I'd expect them to key into the molding somehow.

get a bunch of these clips when going to a junkyard. Its a very good idea to remove the trim and clean the channel to prevent rust.. from memory i fitted to vehicle then press down the trim, they make a 'click' noise when they snap into place.

TIP if you should ever need a windscreen replaced, try and remove the trim yourself. That way you can check their work and they also to prevent them using silicon to re-attach the trim.
