It IS possible to change out the sway bar without dropping the subframe

Post by Arwing »

...if you move some other stuff out of the way too.

I was doing a bit of a suspension overhaul this week and one of the items I was changing out was the stock sway bar for the ipd style. I was prepared to drop the subframe but since I was changing out some other stuff I thought I'd try something.

With the TIE RODS and SHOCKS out, I was able to remove and install the sway bar by maneuvering it through the wheel well without ever having to touch the subframe.

It took some careful maneuvering and I might have scraped a bit of paint off the new bar, but it was doable.

Just thought I'd record the fact in case anyone thought it useful to know. (96 850 R 4-door)
