This is a bit hard to explain but I have been wrestling with a minor oil leak that is coming from the PCV hose that connects to the block next to the canister. I did a PCV job a few years ago and have had a persistent leak from this point. The kit came with a standard worm clamp and I have figured out the clamp has to be on just so to properly clamp the hose to the fitting.
I can get my hand under the manifold to grab the hose and I can get a long screwdriver in there to tighten the clamp. I managed to loosen the clamp and remove the hose to check for maybe some lump of corrosion on the fitting, but no go. I first tightened it down too far away from the block and it leaked really good so I repositioned the clamp as close to the end of the rubber as possible but it still leaks a little, especially if I have been on boost.
So should I pull the hose off again and put some sealant there? Another type of clamp? Am I just not getting the clamp in the right position?
Much thanks in advance...

Sounds to me like the hose does not fit well. What brand of PCV kit.

There are a couple different sized hoses that connect the breather box to the engine block depending on the year (or actually engine serial). You may have gotten a replacement with a large hose and you really needed the small one. That’s what happened to me when I ordered a replacement for my 2003 2.4 NA.

It's right size hose alright. I'm wondering if possibly I should use a narrower clamp, like teh ones with teh rounded edges, so I can get the clamp closer to the bock? That is, if that will stop the leak.. It's a real PITA to get under there, so I'd prefer not to have to go under the manifold more than I have to ..

LOL - things I hate: Oetiker clamps (and the tool used to install them), and being boiled in oil.. About equally..

I’m not sure if this would contribute to the leakage or not, but when you did the PCV service did you blow air through the engine port to make sure it wasn’t obstructed? That could cause condensed oil to back up into the hose and breather box. Could you have accidentally sliced the hose with the worm clamp? Is the oil over-filled?
Just grasping for possible causes.

I cleaned out the port which wasn't that gummed up. I wiped it clean making sure to pull the debris out of the block. I should redo the glove test on the oil filler cap again, to be sure. Car does not burn oil.
No I didn't slice the hose, and I doubt the clamp cut it. The only way to tell I think, is to remove the hose..
Oil is not over filled.

This. What brand is the hose? I go Volvo only on this one.RickHaleParker wrote: ↑21 Jul 2020, 21:57 Sounds to me like the hose does not fit well. What brand of PCV kit.
Sounds like you have the right hose, there are indeed two different versions. The "wrong" alternate wouldn't even line up.
