I took more or less the same approach, reading through the manual for days, marking unclear things, finding out before, then ordering parts and giving it a go. Sadly no luck yet, haha..

My parts supplier offered a photo with the different valve link styles. It looks like it's hard to mix up the rods of the valves, as it's hard to remove the spring from the first IMS version. However, I will open the transmission and check. I should be able to find the time next week, I will update here.

might as well do the electric checks on the solenoid , look at the harness and if you decided to pull the channel plate you could apply air pressure to those holes to check input , 3rd and second clutches and peek at the reverse bandJoost wrote: ↑21 Jul 2020, 18:08 My parts supplier offered a photo with the different valve link styles. Did you have this manual? It shows some specs for the different solenoids and that some malfunctions might not set codes

Thanks Bronco! I will have a look at the video. I had the ATSG original manual as well as the version with the updates, which goes a bit more into the Volvo boxes. I haven't had time to open up the box again, I hope to be able to next week. I did receive the following picture of the parts supplier (much appreciated!), which makes me think it would be hard to get it wrong, as the spring looks hard to remove from the rod, so you'll almost automatically pair the right valve/rod... But I will have a look anyway.

Hey Bronco, nice of you to check in! Actually, I've had some more urgent stuff to do these last week. I will pick it up as soon as I can. In fact, I really need my car back... I will update this thread with whatever I'll find.

Hi Bronco/all,
Sorry for not checking in for a while, it has been very busy. As I have holiday this week, I went working on the Volvo again. I was able to take the side cover of the trans off, with it still installed in the car, after removing subframe etc. The spring style valve I had installed, was still in place and seemed to be moving nicely along with the bracket from the gear lever.
Nontheless, I took it out and compared it to the clip style valve. It looks identical and also the overal length seems identical with the linkage installed. I've made some photos to clarify what I mean:
I installed the clip style valve, which also seems to operate fine.
I've made videos of both installments: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Qgx2fcXcYZBoJq2x5
To be honest, I don't believe this is what is causing the issue. There must be something else wrong. Any more suggestions? I could build it back and try, but I think it will be much work and no result...
