Ive been using a diagnostic scan tool to to monitor exactly what my 2001 xc70 is doing mainly during start up and ive found the A/C compressor is active when the car is cranking and stays on for about 5seconds after starting. This cant be normal, there should be a delay after startup. Climate control is off A/C switch stays in off position, windscreen demist off, looked at compressor and is on. Anyone else notice this? or could it be because of this code (pic). This is the only fault code the car has a temperature sensor in the fan motor
Air Con active during startup, this is not normal?

Thanks to jimmy the expert here on this firum, this knowledge is present here ,and , yes, this is by design.
This protects the compressor from pooled oil by dispersing it before loading the AC compressor fully,
It’s a P2 feature , I think it’s because of a change in the AC design from COTS To valve design.

The refrigerant pools due to low compressor location. On the vehicles with variable displacement compressor the problem is addressed by a progressive change from lowest pumping to the desired higher level function. This feature gives P3 and 3.2 and V8 P2 XC90 owners that delay of 15 or so seconds before the a/c gets cold. NOT to be confused with the several minutes of no function that the displacement solenoid in compressor causes when it fails.
