2002 & 2004 S60 noise on startup (NORMAL ABS CHECK)

Post by quietcoolone »

With the 2004 S60 i've always had this issue but did not make much of it, but notice the same issue on a 2002 S60 i recently purchased for my daughter.
When I go to start driving (and only on initial startup) when I turn and get a few feet (20 or so) I hear a "clunk" coming from the front of the cars. It only does this after initial take off but will not occur again during that journey. In other words the "clunk" does not happen if for example i stop at a light and takeoff again. --- very strange. It also does not happen in reverse.
Does anyone have ideas as to what this could be and suggestions what to look for or check?

Thanks for your time.

Aha!
pretty loud clunk for a test but that explains why it only happens on initial start-up.
Thanks for sharing.

I think it is the first time the car exceeds 15mphish....I'll guess it is a 20 kph or 12 mph number since its an EU. The speed probably chosen where the wheels and sensors are turning fast enough to give reliable speed readings. burp!!
