Hm...food for thought. Will likely reply more in depth when it's not so late.

To Steve's (abscate's) point about parts cost -- Volvo parts are less expensive than BMW parts (I'll take his word for that), but they become downright affordable when you buy from MVS sponsor FCPEuro, with it's lifetime warranty. Other parts suppliers may do the same. I think eEuroparts may be another example.

I worked late last night (2am) anticipating a lovely Friday off and rewarded myself with a CL search before tucking myself in. There...in Alabama-stan...was a beautifully cared for and maintained XC70. I emailed the seller immediately with what I hope was something coherent (I actually said hello to the car first), including asking him if he was on MVS because the ad was THAT good, then tossed and turned all night in anticipation.

Alas.

ALAS.

Someone was set to PayPal him a deposit by the afternoon. And they actually did.

Despair.
Oh, night.
My hair.
Alight
from missing out,
Again.

So the seller was actually really cool and designed a 5 cylinder sticker he had on the window and he's going to send me one. I do love stickers.

Dear Volluminati,

Why you no accept my application?

As my very British grandfather used to say:"T'was patience and per-sevrance, t'made the Bishop of His Reverence."

You might be better off. You don't need either AWD or the turbo of the XC if you're going to be using the car in Atlanta.

Haha, what an awesome saying!

While that is true, I don't NEED the AWD or turbo, I might not stay in backward-lanta forever (please, dear gods). I do love the mountains. I'm open to almost anything P2 that isn't the R (if that's even a P2). Funny how I'm finding more XCs than Vs now. I don't care for the plastic aesthetically, especially on the lighter cars but it is growing on me the more I gaze longingly into cloudy-but-salvageable headlights...and catch glimpses of the door dings on my Bavarian parts-pit. It's also been mentioned the XC is more comfortable to ride in and I'm all about that. If I feel the need to be cradled by an unyielding throne I'll pop into my ND MX-5 RF. ;) Those seats are about as comfortable as the chair outside the principal's office.

Dear Volluminati, please accept my thirst for the pursuit of Swedish knowledge, VIDA enlightenment, abundance of OEM parts, unification between models, and the protection and advancement of the Prancing Moosicorn species. Please grant me the honor of joining your ranks and send my Moosicorn so that I might navigate asphalt, light off-road terrain and the occasional sidewalk ensconced in your boxy-but-safe embrace. Vroom-vroom.

Sometimes you just have to kiss a lot of frogs. In my area I'll bet the XCs outsold the Vs 3:1. High soccer mom concentration. Specific model, I would argue, is less important than service history and condition. Find a good one that's been cared for and it can be a treat.

Your maintenance costs on AWD and turbo will exceed those on a regular V, and mileage suffers as well.

Things I put little stock in for a used car -- paint color. It is what it is.

Troll the ads daily and be prepared to move quickly if a prospect looks good.

I HAS VOLVO!

On August 1, 2020 I welcomed a beautiful baby boy (2004 XC70) into my family. Ben Wash entered my world weighing 3,699 approximate pounds and is 186.3 inches long, depending on the website. He joins siblings Steve, Juniper Spice, Maia, Kira, Bear, King George, Burt, Izzy, Paco, King Tut, Boy, GB and Christine.

Now I am tasked with getting him in-law road ready.

166k miles.

I'm happy to finally join you.

Let the wrenching begin!
