I think there's two different things. The 'squeak' you hear may be a seized bearing inside the large steering column rubber boot at the floor, inside the car. A bit of gymnastics to remove the bearing, but usually it can be cleaned and grease with some silicone grease and should be fine. The clunk is perhaps quite a different thing, a bit hard to suggest a part just with the noise it makes, but I would lift one wheel at a time (engine off), and grab it at 3 and 9 and GENTLY shake it a little - it there's a loose inner or outer tie rod you will know - you can also keep a hand on the tie rod 'ball joints' while you son is shaking the wheel, you will find the play location.Generally speaking, putting two fingers at various metal places is a good way to locate a noisy play in various parts. Also open the hood, and with the engine idling, look at the top of the struts on each side - move the steering the same but more movement. All in all, I would say something is quite loose to made a knock this loud. Ask us which part brands to purchase for these cars
