Tekton 7559 set under $50, purchased with the MVS amazon link of course

There is a more comprehensive set at $100, too

I’ve had good luck with this tool line, better than new Craftsman and Kobalt, but not carrying Strap-on prices.

You can order replacement sockets and kit direct from their website too

Here's a radical thought: instead of springing for a "set" of taps, of which you will probably only end up using 30%, why not just buy the individual taps in the sizes you actually need? Get a few in the best quality that you feel you can afford. Taps are a consumable in the machining world, so don't expect them to last forever. Combine that with a good quality tap wrench and you've assembled yourself a tap "set" that will offer you far better utility than any set you could buy. There's true value.

What's more, taps included in sets are typically a hodge-podge of plug taps, taper taps and bottoming taps. The one you get in the set may not be appropriate for the hole you wish to tap. By buying them individually you determine what type of tap you get.

Thanks.
I've actually been doing that on stuff that I care about. The old harbor freight set is just too crappy for what I need taps for lately. I don't like digging thru the drawer to find the better quality ones though. I am also impatient. If I want to thread a 1/4" aluminum rod - want to do it now - not a week from now because I have to order what I need. Also postage will kill you ordering them one at a time.

Free advice is worth every penny you pay for it. Do with it what you will.
