gas/mileage issues in my '83 240 dl, B21A single carb engine

I would be tempted to manually set the timing after everything is set up. (Two hands, your EARS and eyes) :roll:

You will probably get better gas mileage out of that old girl if you put a can of XXX into the crankcase. Something that frees sticky rings, valves etc. Your compression could be better.
