96 960: gas smell Topic is solved

When I saw the car for first time, I smelled gas. When engine bay was opened it was stronger. Today I finally did first oil change and while I was under the hood, I sniffed around and I found the general area the strong gas smell is coming from, pictured below. I took a look at the fuel pressure Schrader valve and it is not leaking there. Ideas, solutions, please.

As hot as it has been in Oklahoma, you may not see damp from the gas, but still smell the gas. Try some soapy water on al the under hood fuel lines. I am jealous - you have a white block with rear wheel drive AND an extra cylinder.

I think (???) some 240, 940 with big turbos may have heavier manual transmission installed by hotrodders. Maybe look into that on google.

JUNE someone seems interested in the 960.
Yes I didn't know the i6 was this good. I really like it! Some 960 2.9 models in parts of Europe or Russia came with a manual transmission (M90).

At the end of the fuel rail (alum tube) there is a plug, if this plug loses its seal it will leak fuel. Very Dangerous! Replace ASAP. I had this problem with my 95 960.

Referring to a seal on fuel pressure Schrader valve or somewhere else?

i found the gas leak! i turned the car on and then looked under the hood. Gas streaming out towards the firewall from the rubber hose thats connected to the silver cylinder next to the fuel rail. I assume this is the fuel filter. The half tank it took me to get from wichita to shawnee may have been 1/3 if i looked at the leak and fixed it first. tomorrow will get fresh rubber hose.

Check your vacuum hoses. Unless they have been replaced (which I doubt because your car sounds to have had little maintenance the last years), I suspect they need replacement. May as well stock up on vacuum hose when you get fuel hose. Be sure to get fuel hose rated for high pressure injector systems.

I think you have a fine car, but old owners tend to only fix what they need to fix. They get more parked time than drive time. Hum - sounds just like me this year.
