What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Today I drained the tranny gunk and refilled four times until I was happy with the result. 12 and a half quarts of Toyota T-IV fluid. I really hope that's the right stuff. Ha.

I'm really miffed at the shop I took Ben to for the PPI because they did not mention the transmission had all that gunga on it. I'm not sure if there's a leak or what. The level was fine and I didn't see any neon arrows. The filter tube wiggled a little so it could be the o-ring or the gasket on the pan I haven't looked up the name for yet. When I change the oil I'll hose the area down with brake parts cleaner and see if it's recurring or maybe the PO missed a lot when trying to add ATF. His aim wasn't the best with the oil either.

I also rotated the tires as the fronts are almost racing slicks (I'll buy new ones soon), replaced the plugs, put in a K&N engine air filter for +1,000,000hp (after vacuuming out the airbox) and replaced my dodgey hood dampers.

Nice , Starbuck, I see you like the preventative maintenance or “ PM” model like me....replace all five coils before they go. You can keep one and sell the other four as spares too.

I run two cars in my girl fleet like this, the other four are mostly run to fail...regular maintenance schedule for partsm then fix other stuff when it breaks.

That’s probably either a seeping rear main seal Or the turbo drain line o ring (cheap but a bit of a hassle ) . That might be a couple years accumulation so you may even find a high-mileage oil synthetic will slow it

That's what I used, a case of Toyota T-IV.

Tell us how you like the Quick-Jack (is that it?). How high off the floor does it get the bottom of the car? It doesn't look like you're sitting on the sill rails - are there uprights on top that hit the jacking points?

If it is a seal issue the AT 205 could work.

It took care of a mystery seepage which never drip in the driveway. It was probably leaking before the transmission work as it was a mess like yours, The car also had oil burning smell through the vents when I first purchased it and is gone now.

BTW, the transfluid was similar to what was flushed out of my former 98 S70 T5 but with a hint of silver. Night and day difference after the flush.

I love the Quickjack! I've had it since 2014-ish. I don't recall the max height I can achieve but I will measure it for you when I get back in the garage to change Ben's oil. I also bought the truck adapters and those add massive height. I'll play around, take pictures and measure. As far as the jacking points...so I read in the book where you're only supposed to jack the brick up using the cute little midpoints, is that right? Well on the QJ the lift 'trays' didn't correspond so i located the pinch welds hidden by the sills, centered EVERYTHING like a crazyperson (Ben will squish Starbuck like grape) and lifted. I shook Ben like [strike]a baby[/strike] an Iphone. He didn't fall or move around enough to concern me so I approved. Later I was climbing all over the front bumper and sitting on the metal thingie so I could reach the plugs and see into the chasm that hides the ATF filler tube too.

In the picture my finger is resting on where the pinchweld is which happens to also capture the recommended jack point.

Disclaimer! I am not responsible for damage to you, your vehicle, loss of life, limb or beer if you opt to lift your car this way. Volvo says to lift the car using the cute little lift points or the reinforced plates. They do not mention the pinch weld as an acceptable lift point.

I didn't do anything to my P2 today, except check her oil. We took Betty on a nice day trip through canyons and mountains of far northwest Montana, to a stunning place called the Ross Creek Cedars. Spectacular, massive trees in a silent shady forest in a damp creek bottom. A day of valleys, rivers, lakes, peaks, cliffs, and hawks.

320 mi round trip, 50-80 mph roads, fantastic views. A/C on, smooth and comfortable. Good smooth shifting, nice torque, effortless passing.

I'll be really interested in how the new sway bars will affect the feel in twisty parts. Stiffer shocks, stiffer tires, and less lean would be good. But that's not really what this car is for.

Today Ben was treated to an oil change! He's now circulating Motul 8100 Eco-lite. Nom nom.

I really enjoyed the ride height in that I didn't have to lift him at all to complete the job. I just shimmied on under and did my thing.
