The result is - it is SO fun to drive. A completely different car. 1st gear in the auto is about 2nd gear in the manual. Combined with the low powered eta engine, it was a slug. It worked its butt off to stay at 75, and now it glides along 75+. Mileage went way up. You can zip off a ramp and up to freeway speed even just shifting at 3000rpm. He's very proud of our accomplishment. Nice thing to do together.

Apologies for the non-Volvo distraction. We now return you to your regularly scheduled 122 thread. After this, I feel like many of the projects that scare me on the Volvo and Alfa will be easier than I thought.

I just finished front and rear brake work on my 1977 F350 truck. I started out to flush the brake fluid. Then decide to replace the front brake hoses. I found the old brake hoses had a date code from 1995, so it was time. After the front brakes were flushed I noticed one rear drum was wet. On disassembly, I found a leaking brake cylinder and wet shoes. I ordered new shoes, springs and cylinders for both sides.

This truck has Dana 70 rear axle with full floating axles. To remove the brake drums, you must first remove 8 bolts and pull the axle. Then you need a 2-9/16 rounded hex thin wall socket to remove the wheel bearings and the wheel hub. I thought I had a socket to fit, but it turned out to be 8 point instead of 6 point. Another local search for proper socket followed by online order. The bearings has two nuts and a locking tab washer in between. Google told me the proper bearing nut torque after I determined the axle did not have traction control. When I tried to reuse the locking washer, the tabs broke off and the washer groove in the keyway sheared.

With first side partially completed, I moved the truck to make room the pull the other side axle. Then I found the other side had a single nylon lock nut. More google search lead me to Torque King in Billings, MT for the parts and information needed to properly assemble.

While waiting for parts, I flushed and bleed the rear cylinders. Finally this week, I got all parts cleaned and assembled. I still plan to drain and replace the old differential fluid.

Thank you. It was exhausting, I'm bruised.

Hmm, never considered anti-theft. It's always been the $1000 project car that we had to drag home. He was in high school, that was 7 years ago. The "new" battery is already worn out, and he's learned so much. He's driven it all over the NW for college bike races, completely loaded down. They once had 9 bikes on the hitch and roof for a trip! We've rebuilt or upgraded nearly every system on it, except the engine and interior. Springs, subframes, steering rack, all rubber, sensors, mounts, engine wiring, A/C, brake system, ABS system, new ECU, fuel system, transmission....

We're looking into switching to Haggerty insurance at a higher value. Only car we've ever owned that went UP in value from day 1!

I would do something... GPS tracker, hidden kill switch, steering wheel lock, or all the above.

A P2 V70 R got stolen nearby 3 days ago here in Denver. Manual, Atacama. It was towed away, he thinks.

In that sense, it shares characteristics with your son's 325: not very valuable to the general public, no extremely valuable parts, but worth a bit of money to a chop shop.

How long do batteries in a GPS last? Kill switch is easy.

The ones I've heard from local Denver car enthusiasts using are all run off the car's 12v. Anywhere from a dedicated product to a hidden old Android phone. You can get super basic 4G service for cheap for these GPS applications.
