Hi y'all

As the title says, I'm trying to figure out if this is really the end of my beloved.
Basically every shop or person i've talked to has said that it's a total loss. I

I've removed the front to assess the damage, and would just love to hear what everyone here thinks.

the biggest damage i can see is the yellow circled part.

Hold on to it. In the meantime look for a 940 that been parted out. Buy the shell cheap or even better do the guy a favor by getting it out of his yard ... no charge .. and make one out of two.

If you can do the repair yourself, it looks to be worth doing. If you have to pay others, then may not be practical

You don't show the hood? The passenger fender also needs replacement. Radiator support and new radiator might be in store also from the damage and or age. From how far the bumper is pushed in and how bent the passenger side bumper strut is you won't be able to get the chassis back online again. You might be able to cheat and pull thing out so the hood, fender, bumper align but it's not worth effort.

EDIT: I would not make an attempt to straighten out the section in yellow. You will wind up weakening it by fatiguing the metal further. Difficult to see if you can just pull out the radiator support enough to close the hood and replace the bumper. If you can call it a day.

Hood and all, i'd be completely fine with replacing. Just wasn't sure if the body was too far gone. I see what you're saying about weakening it further. some people on another site said i could pull it out with a come along and tree. hahaha - i had the same thought

This seems to be the running answer i keep getting. I do like this option more than just scrapping it or parting it out. Thank you for taking the time. I'll keep my fingers crossed another one goes up for sale around me

Had a $400 69 Corona beater that I put in a used Japanese motor besides the clutch and flywheel. Yes, in my mid 1980's younger days. Put a lot of time and effort and then had someone rear end it while parked. The driver ran off and left his car. The police said the owner did not know who had his car but it was not stolen.

Tried to pull the rear quarter out with a come along and tree and it was not that effective. Try to pull it out by driving it also. If you can get it so all the body panels line up you would be in great shape. Just have to make sure it's driving straight.

When I was a teenager. A buddy had a 1965 ford Galaxie 500 convertible. Another friend rear ended him. Pushed the whole rear end forward about three inches. The insurance company said totaled. No no no that is his baby. Settled for cash and keep the car. He took a small sledge hammer and a 2 X 4, tapped the rear end back out and got it straight. That was 45 years ago. He still has the Galaxie 500.

When I was less than a teenager we had a Galaxie 500 or Fairlane. Long and huge tank. Car was totaled after the fender was mangled.

I'm about to use a 2 x 4 on the 03 Lexus that got rear ended last year .

You have to mitigate frame repair with your cars’ intended use

1 don’t sell it to anyone without a written full disclosure

2 if you drive around town at 25-50 mph then speed is your safety factor. I’ll drive an old 54 VW with no crash protection, so I can’t fault a straightened frame as “ unsafe”

If I’m driving NJ DeathRace I-287 in the slow lane at 80, no. I’m parting out this car.
