NEW Volvo key cloning xc70

Post by darrylrobert »

I have a brand new genuine Volvo key that i want to get cloned. Ive emailed a few places that specialise in cutting Volvo keys and none have replied (assume they dont clone keys?). Ive rung a local key chain store and he said "if i bring him the key he might be able to cut and clone it". He said he has a number of different machines to try.

Im a little worried about the "might", anyone know about cloning/programming these keys, is it possible to mess it up and destroy the chip?

If this is for a post 1998 car , the success rate for non VIDA cloning is epsilon. Where epsilon is approximately

The ration of one Fosters to the volume of the Universe.

If it genuine Volvo key it is impossible to clone it. Need to program it to your car like new key.

SOLVED i just rang my local (2 hour drive) Volvo dealer (service dept) and he said they can "add a number of keys" no problem and the old key will still work. Cost is minimal at around $100 aud (approx $70 usd). Not including cutting of key.

I read information online saying they reprogramme the car and new key making my old original key useless, this would mean buying two new blank keys. According to Volvo "he laughed and said, this in incorrect".

Only thing that was odd is when i asked about cutting the key he said "oh you bought a blank key"....

Question Which should i do first, which is likely to be harder Programming or cutting ?

It doesn’t matter. The key has to go into the ignition to be programmed but I think it could go in before or after being cut. My local indie does cut and program for $40 if I leave car for a week so they can stack their VIDA work requiring the Volvo server access.
