condensation in headlight

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

condensation in headlight

Post by smatt1079 »

Hi,

I have condensation in the passenger headlight of my 99 S80 T6. I see in the repair database there is a fix over on sweedespeed, but the link doesnt go to it and I cant find it. Anyone here know how?

I was thinking about just replacing the whole assembly, but I hear the bumper has to be removed to do that. Is that the better way to go?

:?

Yep...there's a way to open up the headlamp cover and take the old gasket out and replace it. This is the way to get rid of the condensation in there. I posted a reply that explains this just a few posts down with a diagram.

Guess it is so much like yours I thought it was the same, but it is slightly different: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/chat/p ... hp?t=14173

This is probably better (for a '99):

In regards to the condensation itself, Volvo has introduced a new seal (or what they call a diaphragm) that is made of gortex to allow the misting problem to exit the headlamps. You can inquire about this at the dealer.

Doh, i did miss that post. Thanks a million, I'll give it a shot.

The dealer said they have a lens and seal available but that its for the euro model and not normally available in the US but that it'd fit. Speaking of which, if anyone is looking for new OEM Volvo parts, I've found Tasca Volvo (in Rhode Island) has some REALLY competitive prices. They are on ebay or you can call them directly.

I believe you only need to pull it loose on the side you're working on and don't have to take it all the way out.
