Sometimes when it is hot, I get p600, p700, p863 errors, and the transmission indicator goes from D to '-'. When this happens, the automatic transmission appears to be in too high a gear for the low speed and the car is sluggish. As you have a manual, it is not the same problem, but perhaps there is loss of comms to the ECU and the car moderates performance?
In the US the non turbo S60 was sold until 2009.
Is your 2.5T 2007 AWD ? A possible cause for the transmission not displaying D is corrosion inside the DEM on AWD cars. Transmission gets in limp mode, you may also get ‘Brake failure’ or ‘Immobilizer message'. Xemodex.com in Canada can fix these. If it's corroded inside, better fix it quickly before it gets worse and the car won't start.

Look first the the small connector in the side of the ECM box, maybe someone pulled on the wires. May also tests the fan with a small 9v battery. If it's bad, get a used one but don't drive until fixed because a damaged ECU is the end of the car www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_iEQuRWYL8
Checked everything, except fans DC motor. I already checked for the possibility of damaging ECU. In worst case there is possibility to replace the donor ECU with IMMO transfer or disabling the immo :)

Side note, the two modules do get hot even with the small fan spinning - it's not that efficient imo. But the modules are designed to stand being hot to a point. By the way, the left module is the ECM (engine control), while the right one is the TCM (transmission control)
