Could one possibly buy a Porsche cup and install on the rod?

The 10 cent solution.

I copy you on the perisbability of a rubber band but my guess is if you replace at each oil change they will be fine

I beleive I read that turbo cars and N/A cars had different length rods, is that correct?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

I’ll check if the “ head with lock nut” is up it down

Volvo web store shows head up.
Its down on my '96 850. No record in service history of anything being done that would have required removal.

Service manual claims they are sided and labelled - will attach when on a PC.

Just found additional figure in service manual for 850s showing "head with locknut" down. See section titled "THROTTLE LINK ROD" in the following link:

I've already talked with Abscate about this part - managed to salvage one from my parts bin. Will ship it next week.

I don't like this part. It feels very cheap. The fact that the knobs are steel and these cups are plastic with no retainer mechanism other than plastic and pressure gives me an uneasy feeling. I can't imagine the dread of trying to merge onto a highway in traffic or pull out of a driveway near a busy road and having this fail.

I'm already thinking of a way to fabricate a new version of this part for my '96 when I get it back from the shop. Ideally, I'd like to see this 100% made from metal being so close to the engine block and associated heat. One idea involves two lengths of threaded rod with a threaded coupler in between them.

I like the fact that these have the metal retainer springs like a rear hatch gas shock would have. Seems a much better system to me vs. a plastic pressure fit. A piece of the stainless threaded rod between two of these with adjustment nuts below each metal cup and some Loctite holding it all together would be a good investment in my opinion.

Random thought popped into my head; given you lot are US based and still have a plethora of carb driven vehicles on your roads, I imagine it would be fairly easy to find a metal carb link rod that would fit?

Here is the same part in my '96. The heavier end of the rod is on the "top".

It was installed the same way on the '98 n/a intake.
