Please help - we bought a Volvo recently and have had so many problems! First, it often takes several attempts to get it to start up although we think it may depend on how we turn the ignition key! Also, worryingly it has been losing power whilst moving and the speedo goes back to nought.
When losing power the radio/cassette also turns off and we often have to re-enter the code.
If anyone has a possible diagnosis of these problems we'd be so grateful!

Sounds a lot like a bad ground. These are hard to find, but easy fixes when you do. I'd call around to independent Volvo mechanics and get a feeling for who's good, then take the car to them. Write down when the problems occur so you can give them the best background info you can.
Before that I'd just look around the engine compartment for loose electrical connections, especially around the battery.
