Penzoil Synthetic from natural gas

Post by smoggyama »

My Fellow Enthusiasts, I seem to be having good results from this oil. It takes longer for it to become dark, and doesn't cause any of the problems attributed to the brand of manufacturer. Anyone know anything factual about this topic? I would like to know. This oil is about $10 less at HD than O' or AZ (5qt).
I have also an insight into Volvo owners, whether they be new car buyers or you and I. So what is this unifying thread? The answer is the intended period of ownership. We plan on keeping the damn thing and the service records that accompany an original owner's sale reflect the inverse of the relation one has with a rental car.
Life is like a box of chocol- make that an engine compartment. You never know where the tubes go or how to rout a belt 'less you read the diagram on the underside of the hood. Do it right the 2nd time. So when all else fails, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
Be good do good feel good live good.

It's good oil. Also, don't judge oil based on its color darkness (unless it's sludge of course). If you want to get super nerdy and in the weeds concerning oil, go to BITOG forums... plenty of discussion, analysis, and anecdotes. At the end of the day, any major oil brand, particularly synthetic in the correct weight for your car, will be fine.

ecbskyes, Thanks. Popular opinion touts Mobile 1. It seems to go dark more quickly than this Penzoil with the same viscosities. I use color as the indicator for an oil change. Like many 850's, odometer gear has broken again. I have the battery disconnected too often to use the trip computer. Therefore, I have no idea how many miles I drive between changes. My used oil is probably better than what half the world consider to be premature for a change.
My previous understanding is that there is no difference in synthetic oils. There is considerable difference in their additives. I often drive as if my 850 turbo has two speeds, three if I include the crawl I do on my own block before parking.

Use Blavkstone oil analysis to decide if you want to use 3000,5000, 7500, 10,000 as your oil change interval.

If you can't keep track of miles, just figure out maybe how many on average you do per week, then do the math. Again, oil color is NOT a reliable or accurate way to gauge oil condition.

Mobil 1 is good oil like any of the name brands, though arguably there is better stuff out there. Not all synthetics are the same, and yes the additive packages in most are different as well. You can really get in the weeds of this stuff if you want, as there are different levels ("Groups") of synthetic oils. People will go back and forth all day on the internet on what's best or better than another, but again... for the average user, the engine suffering a failure due to oil choice is highly unlikely (unless it's totally the wrong oil grade or a non-detergent or something weird). Most people who go nuts over this stuff will get rid of their car long before oil choice has an effect.

My car mostly had Mobil 1 for the first 8 years of its life, then some Pennzoil/Shell/Mobil 1, and now the last 7 years or so have been exclusively synthetic Liqui Moly 5W-40. I'm at 303,000 miles on my engine and I'm fairly certain I would still be there had I used any reputable name-brand synthetic oil.

smoggyama, I would suggest counting fuel gallons at the pump. Assume some reasonable MPG and calculate estimated miles driven.

Change it hot and often. I like dino at 3000 miles, shell
v70 98 265k miles. runs prefect, except for occasional loud one lifter click, comes and goes last 100k mile.

My T5 didn’t like the Penzoil syn , with 250k miles. The valve stem seals burned after a hill descent. Switching back to mobil1 or Castrol high mileage synthetic fixed that
