045 and 063 code help 02 xc70

Post by Brittany »

Hi I have a Volvo 02 xc70 and I just had some work done on it. New shocks and driver side bearings. Were driving across country right now and it was driving fine when we left but we noticed the key fob isn't working to lock the doors, the top interior lights aren't working, and the sun roof. After stopping for the night we went to get food and the car had a hard time starting. We turned it off and on again and it did the same thing again and the clock in the car had reset as if it had something to do with the battery. When I turned it off the last time the numbers 063 and 045 came up on the dash. I plugged in my code reader and didnt get anything on that. Can anyone help diagnose this problem. Were in the middle of nowhere and I just spent so much money on this car I dont what to take it back to a mechanic if its something I can fix. Thank you for your help.

Get battery and charging system checked. The instrument cluster likely did some glitch from low voltage. The messages in cluster have number identifiers. In the language programmed that message number will show in the proper text. Example: if 032 is "left front door open" in English it would show "porta anteriore sinistra aperta" if programmed for Italy. I have seen numbers in the message center a few times but they were gone when engine was started and the text would show again.

O ok I was thinking thinking the numbers were like obd2 codes. The battery was the first thing I thought it might be because of how it was having a hard time turning over. I just didnt even check after I saw the numbers. I mean it drove fine all day and we even stopped for gas once and it started right up but now it's struggling. Could that also be why none of the electrical things are working either? Could it have fried a fuse? Windows work fine just not interior lights, sun roof, or key fob.

When the battery gets weak enough or is disconnected the car rests to "transport mode" where fewer things work to reduce battery drain for transport when new. Locking and unlocking with remote puts car back in normal mode on that car. You say the key fob (i assume remote) doesn't work when this occurs?

How old is the battery, Brittany? Usually you get about five years out of them before they start pooping out.

The old method of “ if it is good enough to crank the engine, it will run the car” doesn’t apply to electronic era cars, you need a solid good battery to keep all the electronics happy.

Thank you all for the help. The battery was definitely bad got a new one in. It says to use the remote to lock and unlock the doors to get the lights and sunroof to work but my remote wont work to lock and unlock the doors. Going to see if the remote battery is dead possibly. At least the car starts right up now.

Do you get any message about the alarm system needing service? I ask because all of those UEM components are affected by an alarm trigger if I recall correctly. PLEASE Read the information on correct battery disconnecting/connecting procedure. It needs to be followed to ensure all electronics sync up on start-up. Also whenever I re-connect the battery, I lock/unlock the driver's side door three times in order to reset the electronics. Hope this helps.
