And I almost broke the exposed latch coming out the grill. I have had this happen before. I got one side to release. This car has been sitting in my yard for a year. I knew I should't have sold it while I still could.
My mom gave me another, this time v70 7 years newer. (was my aunts in Florida)
I live in a small town with a small yard. I am ready to give the car away but surely it is worth 500 Bucks. The engine is excellent with only around 135, 000 miles. Has practically a new exhaust system and brakes and I did a PCV system replacement thanks to this forum!!! But I need to get the battery charged to as least get it to a junk yard.
Unfortunately where I parked it, it got hit my ice snow off my roof now has cracked windshield. Other than that and a wheel bearing and a rocker panel touch up the past inspecting mechanic said this would run another 10 years easy! But I can't even get the hood open. So how am I going to sell it?
Hood not releasing on passenger side need to sell the 850! or give it away...

Place something like a small wedge under the hood on that side (I've used my key in the past)
Then pop the hood...
See if that works for you.

I got lucky it opened. Then I greased the heck out of both sides and the middle latch/release.
I heard an extra pop from the inside on the 7th try and the passenger side opened along with the driver's side hood latch.
I am getting the battery charged. I could really use some help pricing the Wagon for Sale.

Might be a good time to add backup hood release cables, one to each hinge and accessible from under the car. Cheap and easy to do, and saves a monster headache if the cable(s) do break.

I was just in Greensboro this morning. Basic transportation , about $500 from a runner only.
$1500 for a runner that needs nothing. Rarely found. Every buyer rightly expects
$500 for transmission driveline
$500 engine refresh
$500 for brakes and tires
Not a lot of gravy left

Very often the side latch sits a bit too high.
All you have to do is to mark the existing position with Sharpie.
Then loosen the 10-mm bolts to lower the latch a bit.
It is trial/error.
I posted the tricks/photos in forum.
