"If you did not purchase a replacement intake hose it is essential that you clean out the the connection nipples on the intake hose. This is referred to as the 'PTC' or Positive Temperature Coefficient heater nipple and is installed on all turbos after 1990.
Many PCV replacements have not eliminated the smoking dipstick due to a blocked PTC.

"Take your time and really clean the PTC out well. Soaking the PTC in break cleaner was recommended to me (Thanks Hanks) as an effective method to remove the build up."

It should not be that dirty since you’ve been cleaning it every 30k per the manual, right??

Is this the engine number, on the TB cover sticker? The lower numbers are worn away. (for timing belt kits etc - there's a cut-off number during 1994)

And then I found the TB sticker hidden below that. It looks to me like 138K. So if the on-board diagnostic button method is correct, I have 178k now, so 40,000 on this one. Time is also important - I'll have to find a record of date.

No, the serial number is the lower one, six digits. Looks like you could probably read it if you just pulled the timing cover and looked straight down at it. You can also read the number off the block near the passenger firewall but it is a pain to see there.

OK, I see. 2 7 something 3 1...5? maybe. I'll check with a mirror on the back.

Found a mountain of files and records going back to the first owner.

Engine # 278310, off the block.

Timing belt at 68k, and the second one at 138k, in 2008.

PCV kit from ipd was around 140 to 150k miles in 2014.

40k is nothing for timing parts. But 12 years is getting up there on the rubber timing belt. It so cheap to replace the belt only, I'd do it for peace of mind and confidently let the rest go until the next interval is up - probably never, in other words.

And if the PCV was done right you don't need to service anything there either, presuming the glove test is satisfactory. Clean the PTC, clean the throttle body and the IAC. Check all rubber for dry rot and oil rot, the usual stuff.

Remember Volvo recommend changing the water pump every second belt change. 10 years is max recommended on a belt irrespective of mileage.
