You can’t evaluate oil by looking at it. The darkness can be breakdown or suspended particles. Stuff below 10 um isn’t filtered but is of no consequence to the engine with clearances of 25 microns or more , so black oil can have lots of utility, still.

Oil condition cam be assessed for $20 by labs like Blackstone.

I think this is self explanatory. 5000 miles is the severe duty oil change interval. There is nowhere Volvo recommended 10K OCI for any 2004 model. June

Thanks for all this info. I didn't get gas yet, but I will let you guys know how does the oil look.
