Front and rear suspension torque specs please

Post by Navservice »

Hi,

I have a 2000 V40 with about 120,000Mi on it. I'm in the process of changing front control arms and, while I'm at it, I'm going to install coilovers on all four corners and drop the car about an inch. I don't have the book I probably should have but I usually look up these specs online. No luck this time. I've done the easy part (rear coilovers) and I want to button up the rear end before I move on to the front end. I was curious about alignment specs but I found them online.

By the way, the coilovers are K Sport, the cheap ones. They were on sale for $892 and may still be. I found them for that price at a lot of vendors and most wanted about $60 to deliver. I wound up buying them direct from K Sport in Arizona because they had a coupon, and may still have, for an additional 5% off related to the pandemic. That and K Sport doesn't charge state sales tax, unlike every other vendor, a significant savings. They still wanted $60 for delivery just like everyone else.

Performance type parts can be very hard to find for the 2000-2004 S40/V40. After quite a lot of effort I found urethane bushings, only front sway bar bushings and front control arm bushings. I haven't ordered any yet because I have to make sure I know which ones I want. I sent an email to IPD with specific info on where to find them, they might want to source the parts. If you want get some now (but now!) PM me and I'll give you info. I'd really like to see if IPD will make those available.

I also asked IPD to consider finding and making available the light bulbs for the HVAC panel (with the blue "condoms"), mine are all burned out and I'm probably not the only one. Also, if they had the suspension bolts used to secure the control arms to the chassis I would buy them.

Okay, enough rambling, if anyone can supply me with suspension torque settings I would appreciate it, I'm on hold until I can buttom up the rar end and move the jack stands to the front of the car. I could have sworn I had four jack stands, I know I did, if only I could find the other two....

OK, I bought my own Hayes manual from IPD. Amazon didn't have it and the prices were higher on the ones they did have, IPD was a better deal. In the meantime, while I'm waiting for it to arrive, I wonder if some who did buy the book could fill me in on the torque specs for each end of the rear lower control arm (the one that goes from the center of the car to the rear wheel carrier, would be used to adjust rear wheel camber), the strut bolt in the lower control arm, and the upper strut mount bolts inside the car. Once I do that I can move on with my work. Thanks.

Thanks, I had already seen that post about front end torque settings (on the same car as mine) and that could be useful when I get to the front end on mine, although I've now bought the book. The other one, volvohowto, talks about a different generation of cars. My 2000 V40 is from the generation from 1996 to 2004.5 with some minor changes during that period. After 2004.5 the cars are very different.

Thanks for your response

The Haynes manual arrived today, thanks IPD! I looked and found all the info I need to continue work on the car. It's definitely worth the $25.

My rush with this job is to get the car running in time to get back to Arizona (where I'm registered to vote) in time to vote. Yes, there are other ways to get there but I'm using this as the excuse to get off my butt and do the things I should have done a long time ago.
