timing belt components

timing belt components

I replaced the timing belt kit (except the water pump at 156K ). Now at 189K, I noticed a small leak on the pump. Can I replace just the pump? The rest of the components are 33K young :). The pump is original.

Yes you can.
Use ONLY Aisin or SKF water pump.
Just make sure that you remove ALL of the old water pump gasket.
However...you will need to remove timing belt and set timing again after water pump replacement.

You can, and you might as well just toss a new belt on there while you're in there.

However, that engine *should* have the hydraulic tensioner, and you will need to remove it and S-L-O-W-L-Y compress it and lock it with the pin before you go to reinstall the timing belt.

Agree, I am thinking I will install a new tensioner. The current one will be a spare

The hydraulic tensioner can confidently go two timing belt intervals i.e. 150k. Chuck is just explaining how to reuse it. Unless the tensioner has high miles save some $ and leave it.

The only issue with re-use is if you're on a time crunch, as you can't speedily force it back to its "home" position.
