It's been a long time....i thank all the help i had in the past for my son's old 95 850 turbo. It was a lot of fun and so much knowledge gained. But alas it's gone to volvo heaven. Hey almost 400k miles? You can't ask for more. He moved on to a 2004 Audi allroad. Yep, big mistake and an expensive nightmare but i was able to get Vag software that i actually could do pretty much everything that an Audi dealership could do with diagnostics and resets using an old laptop and the vag cable and plug.
Now, I'm a happy owner of a 1 previous owner, all Volvo dealership serviced 2011 Xc70 3.0T, 95k never wrecked, incredible inside and out, all service records documented...whew! I took me 6 weeks of searching and we had to drive 100 miles to see it right after it came in on a new Volvo trade from the original owners.
Now, i am a retired/disabled Metrology lab groupleader. Worked on cars since my first in 1971. I've been a machinist, assembler, taught SPC in house, built laptops from parts...and wore many hats before giving up to disability. I'd like to ask the community if there's software/cables I can purchase to connect to read/reset/scan the ecu infrastructure in the same manner i do the Audi? Yep, i know most functional access is proprietary to the dealerships....but so was the Audi's and 9 years had gone by for the Volvo. So any help, recommendations or direction would be greatly appreciated
My thanks to all those good folks that share their expertise so others can learn, befit and share!
Dave
