Extraction pump? Can I use it for Volvo?

Post by AlanS »

From my days with my old Mercedes, I have a nice extraction pump. I used it for oil changes, etc. Can I EFFECTIVELY use a pump like this for my transmission? I did a drain and fill a few years ago, would like to do a series again, but would like to make it easier than crawling under and dealing with the driveway (I've grown tender in my older age). I could just 'suck' out the trans fluid and replace it. No?

I think there's a lot of ATF trapped in the torque converter and misc valves and you can't get at all of it. That's why only 3 quarts comes out the drain plug.

Sucking through the dipstick should work but you want the fluid to be a little warm so it flows better (no too much so you don't melt the plastic hose). Should be able to suck about 2-3qts this way. You can also replace the fluid at the return cooling line top of the radiator with green clip, few tips www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ad7HxgNP4s4
