I have an '02 V70 wagon that has not been driven for 3 years. I need to drain the 1/2 tank of old fuel out of the car to see if it will crank. I have siphon hoses and an electric fuel pump with hoses and battery clips. I tried inserting a plastic tube down the gas filler but couldn't reach gasoline.
I'd like to know any tricks for removing fuel from a V70 focusing on the easy. I can't get it to a lift or even drive it up on ramps. It will have to be done at ground or jack level.

Put a pint of dry gas in it, methanol based, and light it offDRNewcomb wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020, 10:05 I have an '02 V70 wagon that has not been driven for 3 years. Sealed gas systems don’t let moisture in the way they used to, and gas takes a long time to go bad. If people start yapping about ethanol gas, slap in the face and carry on.
You might push 100 ml from the valve on the fuel rail and inspect it in a small glass container but this is really paranoid

I solved my problem by simply cutting an acute angle on the tip of the vinyl siphon/suction hose. Then when I hit the obstruction I just rotated and bumped the hose and it went past. (I was concerned that there might be some anti-siphon device.) I pumped out 5 gal of 3 year-old gas, which actually didn't smell half bad (as you suggested). Two gal of fresh gas and it fired right up and went for a spin around the block. Not bad for being undriven for 3 years.

Nice idea about the tip, good to know there is a way to get the hose passDRNewcomb wrote: ↑11 Nov 2020, 11:52 I solved my problem by simply cutting an acute angle on the tip of the vinyl siphon/suction hose. On an old Ford Truck, the fuel line was plugged with rust and nasty gas residue. I pushed a small aircraft style cable up the line to clear. I twisted and pushed the cable to get it in the fuel line. I also pulled vacuum on the line and used carb cleaner to break up the mess. Maybe gas will not go bad in 3 years, but if it is older it will, especially in a steel tank with any ethanol in the tank.
