What I could use from your car is that bumper bracket on the frame rail. I'll have the body shop look at mine and see if it can be bent back into place. If they can't fix mine, let me know how much you want to cut yours off the car and mail it to NH. The last photo you posted above is what I need. But let me ask the body shop first.

A high quality body shop gave me a repair quote of almost $7000. That was for an "insurance quality" job including a complete new quarter panel (both door tops), new frame rail, repainting used parts, etc. There are ways to lower the price, such as getting my own used parts in matching colors.

One large cost remains - They want to install a new frame rail. Mine is slightly crumpled in two places. They would first pull the body straight on their frame machine (I knew the trunk door wasn't sitting right), then replace the frame rail with a brand new one.

Now I have to calculate if I'm willing to fix the car or to scrap it and get a different V70 manual. This requires me to calculate costs for all the repair projects I've been delaying, and those I might need soon. Then I have to find a replacement V70 manual (or V70R??) to compare the price. Finally, I have to figure out how to sell off as much of my car as possible before giving it a dignified end.

You will have to build in a contingency of another 2-3k in case they find other stuff to deal with; it adds up,fast.

What about pulling it straight with a jack, grafting in new quarter panel, then getting it painted to match.

Maybe $1500 all in?

There is too much good car there to junk it

About two weeks ago I had an almost identical accident! Body shop quoted over $8k to repair so insurance declared a total loss and gave me $3684. Not bad for a 1998 V70 base model. Hope this all doesn't give you too much of a headache and glad you are OK from the accident. I had to let my '98 go and was sad to do so. Purchased a 2000 V70XC with 120k miles so I can continue my hobby.

I've accumulated 220,000 miles over 22 years with 4 accidents - none my fault. (Two of them resulted in more $ damage than yours and would easily total the car now.)

These cars are irreplaceable. Volvo hasn't sold any cars in the US with stick shifts in about a decade, BMW stopped importing stick shift wagons in 2012 and now VW has stopped, too. The last Golf and Golf Alltrack wagons -- still available with manuals -- will be 2019s.

I'm not sure what I would do.

KBB calculator has given a value as low as $1 for mine as a trade-in.
'98 V70 T5 232K mi., 5-speed manual, 3rd evaporator, 3rd windshield, 7th remote shell, heated velour seats, factory HD suspension, IPD stabilizer bar, Volvo strut tower brace and skidplate, XC grill, E-Codes, V-1, JB Weld, Duck Tape, zip-ties, Mobil-1 since new. Goal: MADE IT to the MOON! (was 221,524 miles at perigee November 14, 2016.)

Sad to say, but I am about to send my 2000 V70 stick shift to the scrap yard. I am moving some parts off it to another 2000 V70 I just acquired. I hope to be able to drive it to the scrapper as a final point of pride. Still not sure how I'll remove the essentially new $800 Ferrita exhaust and I would like to keep the wheels. And maybe I'll take the shift knob as a memento.

Anyone in the NH area have a tow truck or a trailer with a winch and want this formerly lovely manual transmission wagon?
