power window regulator stuck. Driver side. 92 940 Turbo

power window regulator stuck. Driver side. 92 940 Turbo

The problem is that the broken power window regulator mechanism is riveted into the door on the inside. How do I get it out to replace it. Please don't tell me I have to drill rivets out?? Surely there is some old trick. I can't tell but they look like pop rivets. Thanks in advance for a speedy reply.

My 92 940 Turbo has 165K miles on it.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

If they are rivets they do have to be drilled out (4mm drill).

Some did have retaining nuts but not all.

Bill, I can't say I'm surprised by your answer. I can say I'm shocked by Volvo's use of rivets. It's things like this that made me stay away from American cars my entire life. I guess Volvo has fallen prey to the Ford influence. And it's time for me to start looking for another car.

I have heard of people drilling out the rivets and replacing them with nuts and bolts.
