It is not a radio it is a head unit (basically just display and control). On a audio network. Which has many different modules.

I would be looking for low voltage because the Head unit will shut down the network to conserve energy if it detects low voltage.

I think there's something about them sitting up... I have the second XC90, 2004 w/no radio, both bought at auction w/dead batteries. Both run and drive good w/new battery. One I have now, can rarely get the control head to light up, but if you switch car off and on 6 or 7 times control head then lights up can switch off and on continually. So I think there's something going dead - question is where, and how to fix it...

I have the same problem.
Radio was working fine. Than I did the mistake testing the blower motor on the battery in the trunk without removing (-) first. Accidentality, while testing it I shorted the battery for a split second. After that the radio stopped working.
It will start up and work perfectly for about 10 minutes after start up. After that it will stop. Pushing the power button will not activate it. After shutting down the engine and starting it again, the radio works again for about the same amount of time.
I did everything the guy in the following video said:

I have still the same problem. So I will keep updating here.

OK. So the Premium sound system in my 2004 XC90 T6 just quit while driving 6 weeks ago. Nav system, parking assist not working. No information from Infotainment display, Console lights blinking intermittently. @#$%!!$$%$$*&^$. Did the usual checks on fuses, relays, wiring and nothing. Removed the ICM and paid $85.00 to have capacitors and other PCB items checked and replaced. Did not fix the problem. Went to a junkyard and got an ICM from a 2005, swapped it out, did not fix the problem. Getting frustrated with the quoted pricing for a replacement from the dealer ($1,399. + $201. for programming) I went hunting... specifically looking for an XC90 with as close to matching VIN as possible. Found one in a junkyard. Both cars were built in the same factory in Torslanda within a month of each other. The junker had been sitting in the yard for over 10 years, engine and guts ripped out. Inside ripped out..except...wait for it................the Radio unit!

Pulled it out, Paid $45.99 for the unit, went home with no expectations. Installed the unit, reconnected the battery and immediately the NAV screen popped up, FM stations started talking to me. I had attached my Grom Audio MST 4 prior to startup. Connected my iPad, switched to CD mode and turned up the sound of Luis Bonfa's "April in Paris". No issues for over a month. Oh Man..Hope this one lasts the life of the car...

Note: The part numbers for the ICM and Marix display DID NOT MATCH. Thought this would have been an issue but clearly was not. Ahhh Volvo, Volvo! Gimme a break...
