That was a bunch of horsepowers then! Still is! But imagine the complication of that engine. Note that they quickly switched to a V-16 for the BRM F1 cars.

To me, the G.O.A.T. of secret order specs was the Dodge Dart w/ 426 Hemi in drag configuration. Best engine, lightest body. All you had to do was check a box.
The windows were plexiglas, with a strap to move them up/down. I don't know if it was a weight saving thing, but either way, the body flexed so much under WOT it broke glass side windows.
I don't remember the year... around '69.

It seems Detroit has restarted the horsepower wars. Several new muscle cars are available with 700- 800 horsepower. When one company ups the HP, another soon tops the number. Players are GM, Ford and MOPAR. MOPAR has Hellaphant crate engine with 1000 HP. It is 426 CI with new technology including supercharger.
