Put a 30mm socket on the crankshaft and see if you can turn the engine over. Turn clockwise. Counterclockwise can cause the timing belt to slip. Check the starter, make sure it is not loose.
I don't have a 30mm or a breaker bar. Could be a while before I get to that. I did confirm the starter didn't have play.

I've had good luck with the transmission in these 960's.
I don't exactly baby mine. I do take it easy during warmup. It's a straight 6 and I do enjoy It's acceleration.
Regularly hit 4k and even 5k. I don't bounce off the rev limiter though.
I don't treat it as though it's fragile. I drive it but don't abuse it.

I LOVED the acceleration. I would normally hit 2k maximum on acceleration and baby it. But about 20% of the time up to 3500rpm making it super fun. Only twice have I had it up to 6500rpm and that was merging from a cloverleaf onto the next highway. Not a turbo but fun nonetheless. From a stop though I use to always go easy because of the driveshaft issue. This time I nailed the gas from a stop up to 30mph and the driveshaft resistance busted the tranny I think.

Still sounding like a busted U-Joint or the Driveshaft went AWOL.

I always take it easy on 1st gear. Will give it the gas when it hits 2nd through 3rd.
Also use S mode setting.
When set to E can drive it easy enough you barely feel the transmission shift through the gears.
Don't want it to sound like I'm always racing my engine.

I did some investigating that didnt cost me anything. I hope these results mean at least one positive thing. I jacked up the rear end, and turned the driveshaft in neutral. Turning it both ways made the driver side wheel turn. However, the passenger side turned very slowly intermittently, like not much and only in reverse direction, not forward. Holding the passenger side wheel would turn the driver side. But holding the driver side would make the passenger side turn much, like when I was controlling the driveshaft. Im assuming this may just be the normal limited slip or whatever is in the differential. The driveshaft did turn freely, no difficulty with that. I watched it for a moment at the bolted point on the transmission. Does this stuff mean anything to you? Next i am going to jack up the rear end and try to turn it in drive. I think there will be an issue with that but i will deal with it.

Please refer to my post about testing the rear wheels in Neutral. So I jacked up the rear end again. This time I tested the rear wheels and driveshaft in Park and Drive. I tested Park first and found that both rear wheels moved easily at the same turning rate. The driveshaft did NOT move. Then I shifted into Drive and the wheels turned easily at same turning rate. The driveshaft rotated in either direction. I still am not able to buy a bar and 30mm socket to rotate the engine.

If you are having trouble finding 30 mm, get a 1 3/16 socket. Or even 1 1/4. Turn Clockwise only.

Well that's not the issue. I just didn't want to break up my $100 bill I've been saving. But I can't just not test it so I'm gonna go buy a breaker bar and 30mm socket tomorrow.

It least both of these tools are reusable and likely for a lifetime. Try a pawn shop for used, often in good brands. Remove the spark plugs to make turning easy.
