I am currently running the Goodyear Assurance Triple Treads on the Volvo and really like them. I have the Yokohama Avids on my Camry and like them as well.

The price of tires in Canada compared to U.S is just absurd. We are getting reamed here and not even a little lubrication to ease the pain.
As a comparison:
Missus' tires for Envoy(shhhh!) 245 65 17 Michelin Xterrain 205.60 each

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1. ... &x=17&y=14

or BF Goodrich rugged terrain 186.00 each

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1. ... &x=13&y=15

My tires for 850: Michelin pilot primacy 205 50 ZR 16 252.00 each

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1. ... 1&x=8&y=14

Oh! and do not forget the 14% taxes still to be added.

(  its 13%, just saved myself some money!!!!)

Seems like there might be a market up here

Last month I purchased a set of Kumho Solus KR21 from Tire Rack. They are an 85,000 mile warrenty and are only "T" rated but I do not drive over 90 mph very often. They cost $48 ea and shipping was just under $10 ea and I was able to get them mounted and balanced for $10 ea. They improved the ride tremendously and are very quite. Have not been in any deep water yet to check hydroplanning. Living in North Texas I am not concerned with snow. I put a set of ECSTA on my show Mustang three years ago and they have performed perfectly but do not have a lot of miles on them. The tire are made in China or South Korea so that is why the price is low. You can get Kumho in an "H" rated but the mileage will not be as high. The ECSTA is a "V" rated tire and it still had a 300 treadwear rating.

R,S,T,Q,H,V,and Z are speed ratings and have nothing to do with treadwear :!:

I would assume that the speed ratings are more accurate since it is a safety issue, but I would assume that the Treadwear is somewhat exaggerated for obvious reasons.

Echo "you get what you pay for" - bought my 97 GLT s/w from Chevy dealer (!) in tough shape, but they had new "nankang" tires on it. Looked nice, but found high-frequency vibration above 70 mph. Thought it was just natural or road surface, until put snows on same wheels and no vibration! Come spring, bought new wheels and put nankangs on them (figuring bad balance in first place) - a little better but still there. Bought set of Michelin "Primacy" 195/65/R15 - and magic - smooth as all get-out at 85 and up! - no point wasting a couple hundred as "learning" fee on top of price of good tires....

I always go with the Toyo Proxes TPT H- rated tire. $279 shipped to my door for the four tires at treadepot.com.

Excellent tire

I have used three sets of tires on 850 so here is what I think of each of them:

Pirelli- They are very expensive and have the nicest ride quality of the tires- however they have the lowest treadlife as well

Michellin- Not as pricey as the Pirelli's but had several slow leaks as the rims on the 850 are somewhat soft- tread life was still too short

Yokohama- These have very traction, price and tread life- I feel that these are best tires b/c of all the factors that go into a tire and they are cheaper than Pirelli or Michelin

In response to Kumho, I have heard that they have good traction and very good value- but treadlife is the main problem. My friend has them on his Mazda and they perform well

I had Kumho's on a Mazda as well and they were good for that car. I haven't heard good things about longevity or noise on Volvo's.
