i've got some vibrations in the cabin whenever i drive off from a stop. i'm suspecting my top engine mount. no cracks, but its quite hard. not soft like my other rubber mounts. good or no good?

I guess it depends on what your torque arm bushing is. Many of our cars have had the mount replaced with a polyurethane mount as it is easier to replace it and it is also cheaper. The net result is that it will last forever but it transmits more vibration to the cabin.

The OEM mount is black rubber and it has fat parts in the rubber and skinny parts in the rubber. It was designed to have some movement.

If you have an OEM mount the trick is to look at it laterally, if you can see light from the other side it is shot. If it is a solid piece it is an aftermarket replacement and the vibrations can be expected.

That's a misconception.
The rubber of both sides (front and back sides, NOT top and bottom) is more like a pull from the mold and will break off early. If the rubber is solid at the TOP AND BOTTOM the mount is considered OK and should be for some time.
There are many other mounts that can be looked at but if you have a POLY aftermarket top mount, that will have to replaced brfore any vibration will go away.
It will usually be blue, black or yellow but smooth round and hard, not like the OEM rubber mount which has "ridges"

Hello,

Anyone know where I can order this part? Was quoted 90 bucks plus shipping from one store they tried to tell me I needed the entire enclosure that the bushing sets in. Any advise.

Thanks

The last three are options here: Rear Upper Motor Mount Bushing Options
If you have the 3rd from the last on the page, then you can use the last one (poly mount) as an option for what goes in it. Many like the new improved OEM design (next to last on the page) and change the entire arm with bushing already installed. Like JRL said, the poly bushing will transmit more vibrations but will last a long time (maybe the life of the car). My wife's '04 V70 has the square bushing in the round arm (next to last option) and it's pretty nice. Really depends on what you're after I guess. With the poly bushing you do have more feel for the car off the line- something many of us with turbo's in our S70's like.

Eeuroparts also offers similar options and they have free shipping on orders of $39 or more: http://www.eeuroparts.com/searchresults ... 1&cat=1013
