I've been trying to figure this one out and I'm about to give up and just replace axles...
When accelerating, starting at around 60km/h, there is a major vibration - seems like front driver side. the vibration only happens when on-throttle, goes away when coasting...but it gets worse as you drive, and even once it started making noises like a binding kind of 'bang bang bang' noise. My mechanic got it up on the hoist, and there's nothing visible underneath, and no sign of binding in any of the CV joints or axles or anything while on the hoist. Then it comes down from the hoist and will continue to happen.
i'm perplexed...does this sound like a CV issue? or something else?

Yes, this a bad CV axel. The inside "cage" of the axel has some play in it and causes this problem. There could also be end play in the axel, a small amount can cause problems with the balance of the spinning axel. Replace the suspect one. This fix my same problem.
