Etm or fuel pump relay

Post by Soldion »

Would these have the same symptoms? Car died after stopping to get gas? Was running fine before. It did do this randomly for a couple of years; usually unplugging the battery for a minute would usually fix the problem except this last time.
Thanks

Specs:
03 S60 2.5T AWD
217456 miles

Update, more info:
OK, there is no CEL, new plugs, coils. it wasn't, flooded with gas, has over half of tank in it right now. There is no fuel pressure when I checked where the schedar( can't seem to remember how it's spelt) valve; unless some how I didn't do it right.

More likely fuel delivery than throttle body but that is way too sparse data for a decent diagnosis.

Does this only happen immediately after getting gas? If so, is engine flooded ... is can you start the car if you floor gas pedal and crank for 20 sec?

I had above problem before. There is a vacuum switch that gets stuck open and floods engine while filling tank if it is stuck.

At that mileage > 200K miles:

1. FPR as posted above, but use on ly Bosch. Very easy DIY.

2. Search forum for PEM: it can be anywhere: under the car, in the trunk etc.
Get a good used one on ebay for $50 or local junk yard.
If you swap and it works, then you know it is a bad PEM.
I posted some tricks in this forum.
You may need a 7-mm socket...

Ok I ended up buying a FPS cause its cheaper. While I was waiting on the sensor to get here, I figured I'd look at the PEM. Well I never could find it. Looked in the spare tire compartment, and couldn't tell if its on top of the tank, I can't even get my hand up there. So couple of more questions..

Do I have to drop the tank to get to the PEM or is it behind the wheel well?
Would dielectric grease be ok to use a lubricant for the sensor?

Thanks
