JB Weld for tailpipe repair?
Had to cut off the end of my tailpipe to replace the bumper bracket on that side. I have a tailpipe extension with flange that just fits, not too tight but close enough. I haven't used JB Weld but I know some MVS members have. So any thoughts on smearing a little on the cut end and sliding on the extension?

Does the extension pipe have a couple of slots cut in the inner end that slides over the old pipe? If so I would use a U-bolt muffler clamp and use the JB Weld to prevent any leakage between old pipe and new. JB Weld is good stuff, just not sure how good on something that has a constant vibration with heat/cold cycles. But with a clamp on the pipe joint that should reduce any vibration issues on the JB Weld.
Good Luck!
Neil.

JB weld will crack and disintegrate.
I've used Permatex Hi Temp RTV #81160, it is a silicone sealant material, for leak prevention while sleeving the tail pipes. It works! Apply like a toothpaste on a toothbrush, then clamp the pipes together.

If you go to the JB Weld website you will see a range of products with full specs. Regular JB Weld is not extremely heat resistant (as in manifold temps) but I think it is good to about 500 F. How hot is your tail pipe? I don't think mine is 500 F.JimBee wrote: ↑04 Jun 2021, 14:03 Had to cut off the end of my tailpipe to replace the bumper bracket on that side. But JB Weld is not flexible, so if the metal is heating and cooling a lot, that could be an issue. JB Weld has other products for higher temps including wraps.
This is just a tail pipe.
Why not use a band clamp? Amazon: Roadformer 3" Butt Joint Exhaust Band Clamp for example

Thanks all for the suggestions. Since I haven't used the JB Weld before so the info on that is helpful. I have a standard 2.5" exhaust pipe clamp. If I smear a little Permatex high temp sealant around the joint then clamp it, that should be good for the life of this vehicle!
