Turbo removel neccessary for Manifold and Flange Replacement?

Post by Turbolena »

Hi There,
I searched all the multiple postings on this topic. And while other's posited the question there was not a conclusive answer when dealing with just exhaust manifold and flange replacement.
Does the Turbo needed to be removed for Manifold and Flange Replacement?

I have gotten enough loosened up without much movement of the exhaust manifold that I am speculating that it does need to be removed. maybe I just need to pound the manifold off? I did try some prying and blows and it moved a little with all the studs out, but it still seemed stuck via the turbo to flange connection- which I did loosen the clamp for.

Thanks ahead of time for some insights.

I just replaced my exhaust manifold a couple of weeks ago. I didn't need to remove the turbo.
Loosen the three bolts on the down pipe, then the four holding the turbo to the flange. Then pull the down pipe toward the passenger side and separate the turbo from the flange. I had to use a piece of wood as a wedge to hold the turbo away from the manifold and then finagle the manifold out.
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.
