On a turbo , that’s probably loose induction somewhere
That you mention this, there was a punctured hose that I replaced a few months ago (vacuum hose to manifold); I need to check what else could be loose/punctured that I may not be seeing. Great suggestion, I'll start with this!
Not a cleaner. MAF cleaner and nothing other them MAF cleaner
Lol yeah, a MAF cleaner, I was just checking that on Autozone and checking Youtube to learn the best way to do it.

Over the years Iv learned to put zip ties on the end of all my vacuum connections. May seem “ghetto” to some but it works for me!

Hey folks, I just wanted to share an update.

I started with cleaning the MAF sensor since it was the fastest job. 10 min job. And booyah it worked like magic! I've tested the car for over a week now with temperatures close to 100 in CA (for those outside the US, over 37 celcius) and didn't see the same symptoms again. Thanks @RickParker and everyone for the suggestions and help!

@cleven, let us know how it goes with your car as well.

That said, I've also decided to go ahead and clean the throttle body as well since I never cleaned it. Just waiting for the throttle cleaner to arrive by mail. Thanks @cn90 for the DIY tutorial!

I'm still chasing my vehicle's erratic idle. Replaced every flexible vac hose, intake snorkle, ETM, intercooler flex hose, O ring to turbo, MAF, TCV. Wondering if it's just my ETM at this point but I'm not enough of a whiz at VIDA to know what to trend/look at to verify it. Definitely gets worse when it's hotter outside.

For me, the very erratic idle (that I've shown in video) got fixed by just cleaning the MAF sensor.

However, I still had loping when idle. It wasn't serious as shown in video, no RPM change, but it was enough to annoy tf out of me. Would notice it most whenever I stop at traffic lights. I tried cleaning the throttle body over the weekend and that solved the loping like magic! It's been annoying me for years, wish I had done this earlier.

For throttle body cleanup, I cleaned it up (on my 04 XC70) WITHOUT removing it. I didn't have a gasket so I thought let me try cleaning it in place. Most useful tool was a mirror that I put underneath it to help me with spraying. Worked like magic, it was so dark in color from carbon deposits before spraying the cleaner. I then shoved a wrench wrapped with a piece of cloth into it so I get to clean the other side of the flap. After starting my car, the loping was GONE! Good riddance!

Sorry was quickly writing above post. Yes cleaning the throttle body was the first thing I did. Once I did that I put a new gasket and torqued all bolts and hose clamps down.
