Dies then no start

Post by 1992volvo240 »

I just bought a 1992 Volvo 240. It ran great for about two weeks then died and wouldn’t start back up. There was no sputter just died then no start. I replaced the fuel pump relay checked my fuses replaced the spark plug wires and spark plugs even went as far as new thermostat new water pump. Checked both fuel pumps they both pull up checked fuel it was good checked spark it was good. Don’t know what else to look for help me out!

Any exhaust leaks heating the fuel line between the two fuel pumps?

I do not believe so it’s very quiet an old couple owned it and didn’t drive it a lot, it sat for 3 years. Everything is very clean no busted parts or anything like that. Stock exhaust I got under it to check and it looks almost new slight rust on the exhaust but nothing crazy

All it takes is a pin hole blowing on the fuel line to cause Vapor Lock.

I’ll check it again to be sure. I have taken the fuel line on the fuel rail off to see and measure it gave me the correct specs.

I'm new to Volvos. However if your car uses a Hall sensor, this is a classic symptom of Hall Sensor failure.

After the engine dies, check for spark at the plugs. No spark is an electrical problem. If still have spark then arrange for a fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel rail at the engine. Observe the fuel pressure as it starts and then when it dies.
