First post here fellas.
I just picked up a 2004 V70 2.4 non turbo. The previous owner mentioned it had a leaky fuel tank, but it wasn't leaking when I checked it out (it had slightly more than 1/2 tank of gas in it). I drove it 150 miles until the low fuel light came on. That was over a period of 4 days. I filled it up this morning (only 14 gallons - should be 18 I think) and it leaked all over the parking lot at work. It's leaking at a rate of about 1 drop per second.
I tore into it this evening hoping to find a damaged o-ring around the fuel pump lid or something like that. Well, this car has the steel tank, and only one 'access' hole on the passenger side of the fuel tank. All the posts and Youtube videos show a bunch of hoses coming out of the top of that hole, but all mine has is an electrical connector mount (see picture).
The Fuel Control Module was just replaced a few weeks before I bought the car, and the owner said that's when the tank started leaking.
Any idea where to start looking?

I cannot provide any information as to the leak source/solution. I suggest asking the previous owner who did the "control module" replacement. Then contact the repair person for the specific tasks performed. Perhaps the leak is due to the "replacement" and covered by warranty.

Well, the car has 245,000 miles on it so anything warranty related I think is long gone.
I've got the records from the previous owner, so your idea of contacting the repair shop sounds good.
I was kind of curious to see if anyone knew of 'common' leak points on the steel tanks like this.
It looks like dropping the tank is a large undertaking, and I'm trying to see if it's absolutely necessary or if there is an alternative.

Has anyone dropped a steel tank out of a non-turbo V70 before?
It looks to be straight forward, but I'm wondering if there are any snags.
From the parts diagram, it looks as if the filler neck stays with the tank during removal. That makes me wonder in if the rear subframe has to come out or not? Maybe it just threads right through the rear suspension?
My bigger concern is making sure I disconnect all the fuel lines or at least un-clamp them from the tank. I've still got to drive 150 miles before my fuel level gets low enough to even attempt this.
Any advice?

I have a similar problem. I have a 2005 V70 with steel tank. It seems previous owner tried to do some repair to the right angle connector that connects the fuel line to the gas tank. My car does not have an external filter so the pipe goes from tank directly to engine. The leak only happens if you turn the engine on, and pump pushes gas trough the line. It is clearly leaking at the connector. I am having difficulty figuring out what part I need. Does the fuel line come with the connector that plugs into the steel tank nipple, or there some intermediate part? Please help! I need my car...

I’m guessing these cars have rodent damage to fuel lines from sitting
