Manifold bolt broke

Post by loveMy850 »

Did the pvc and a bolt broke, mine is a 7m. For a helicoil do I want to get a 7M. Healy coil? Any other suggestions before I even go that way would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...

Did it break off flush with the surface of the head? Did it break when undoing or when tightening?

It broke off when tighting. I haven't taken it out to look, I'm hoping the end will be sticking out of the intake and maybe I could take some plyers and get it the rest of the way out, but if it isn't then what?

I may mean the block sticking out don't I? I'm nervous over the Healy coil thing.

You should be fine. At least it's on the intake side, not the exhaust. Lots of room to work and since the intake really doesn't get hot, I doubt there would be any warping if you ended up without a bolt. If it's sticking out, then vice grips might do it. If it's flush or below the surface, then a reverse drill bit should get out. If not that, then an extractor. I doubt that you'll need to go the Heli-core route. You could probably re-tap the hole and use some locktight before needing the Heli-core. But I don't think it will be any kind of an issue.

Hopefully it broke above the surface! As has been suggested a reverse drill might tease it out and at least the inlet is more accessible as has been stated.

Good luck!

Irwin bolt extractors are amazing for grabbing studs which are slightly exposed. They also work on bolt heads which are badly rusted or rounded. Check out the common sizes in Irwin 394001 and the uncommon sizes in Irwin 394002.
