has anyone just ordered a key and not gotten it programed? is it possible to remove the chip from my good key and glue it under the dash and then any key will work?? the dealer wants $55 for a cut key, $40 for software and $100 to program the car for the new key? I know it doesn't take much to program the thing, i just hate to pay $200 for something I can do for less! also is it likely any locksmith could cut this key?
any ideas here??
Heck it is even cheaper to order 2 new keys and glue my whole key under the dash! does anyone know how to get the chip out or where in the key it is located?
need a new key for 01 V70, can the chip be Bypassed

looks like I found a simple fix! I orderend 2 new keys online from classic keys, the keys were $45 for both plus $5 shipping. since I have 1 original key, i got 2 new keys with no transponder, I will mount my original key under the dash or directly to the column, yes this will dissable the saftey of the lock but I really don't care since no one else will really be aware of it! and now I will have 2 working keys.

When I had the auto car starter installed, a key is placed under the dash in a ignition bypass for the new system. That left me with only one key. After the new key was cut but not programmed into the computer, I tried it out. I remember that it was only partially effective. Maybe it started the car but didn't stop it. Could have used the brake pedal? So I paid the $75 to program the computer. You may get a better result without the autostart.

from what I have found you must get a key with No transponder at all, if you get one and do not program it, it will not work properly as you mentioned, the new transponder will send a signal the car does not recognize and the original key will also send a signal it does recognize and get the system mixed up. as long as the original key is near the ign, under the dash it will only get a signal from it since the keys I am ordering will have no transponder in them, it should work just as the original does! I will post back my results when I get them. It will probably be late next week or so since I need to get the car from the wife to do so!!!
