Differences in n/a 850 Throttlebodies? Topic is solved

Hi all, recently I have been looking at the 960 throttle plate mod for my 1994 n/a 850 to see how the better throttle response feels. However when I first pulled my throttlebody off I unfortunately found that the previous owner had at some point welded the torx screw to the throttle plate itself so I went to the junkyard to find another throttlebody.

I ended up finding a new n/a throttlebody at the junkyard that I cleaned up and when i went to install the new one, I found that there was a key difference between the two. Both have a 65mm plate so it's not like i accidentally picked up a turbo throttlebody however there are 2 small nubs that fit some small hoses on to my current TB that do not exist on the new one that I picked up. What exactly are these lines for and are they necessary to be hooked up?

(also when it comes to the throttle plate I decided to just sand down the plastic wedge at first to see how well that works before going to the junkyard to look for the 960 plate as I have seen some people say that worked arguably just as well)

Picture below is of the 2 TB's, the dirty one being the one that I've had on the car, and the cleaned one is the one I got from the junkyard.

Does your '94 have the "Variable Geometry" intake?
Ports for that, perhaps?

I see the physical differences, but I am struggling to see what the issue is with the original throttle plate unit? Is it not possible to repair the original unit?

How would i be able to tell if i have the variable geometry intake? Like what are the identifying features.

I don't know who but at some point in this cars life there was a solid blob welded over the torx screws down onto the throttle plate, I'm sure with the right tools i would be able to remove the plate from it but as far as I know I don't have those tools. I was mainly concerned with damaging the throttlebody that I knew already worked 100% with my system.

Do either of you happen to know what those hoses feeding into the side of the original throttle body are for? Besides those 2 stubs for the hoses on the original they look identical

Where are you in Southern CA? There are some parts places over there. 850's are getting thinner on the ground but I know my brother lives in Santa Rosa and there were a few PnP's around there that used to have a fair number of Volvos in there.

They are getting old, but it may be worth trying vandsautodismantlers in Sacramento. Specialize in Volvo and SAAB.

I was just reading through that thread, found the link to the N/A tuning 20V, VVIS, something different and saw in the comments that apparently the 93/94 VVIS cars had 4 stud wheels instead of 5. Not sure if thats confirmed or not but I did have 5x108 wheels, I also read that only the GLT N/A models of 93/94 were equipped with VVIS and mine is a base model, at least on the pink slip/off the vin.

I'm in orange county, the closest LKQ pick your part yard near me was the one out in monrovia where i got the new throttle body from. Otherwise there haven't been any 850's in the relatively nearby junkyards lately.

Is it possible for me to take the plate, as well as the arms that hold the plate that hook into the TPS from the new throttlebody and put them in my original one? If thats the case then i wouldnt necessarily need to worry about damaging the bars/plate of the original in order to remove them.

So I did some peeking around at the intake and found some item numbers in between each inlet being (from top to bottom): 6733, 3531192, 93501. I also found this system between the 2nd and 3rd inlet from the top (looking from the passenger side) which lines up with images of the VVIS system I'm seeing online.

The few throttle bodies I have tinkered with had some sort of hard epoxy dabbed on to the throttle plate screws. I assumed that it was done to prevent the very rare case of one of the screws working loose and being ingested into the engine. When I switched plates I used a little loctight instead.
