Door open, battery drain? Topic is solved

Between myself and my kids there have been a couple of times where a front door on my ‘07 XC70 was left partially open all night, or only partially latched. The kind of open where it looks closed from afar but would trigger the door open warning if the car were on. The key is not in the ignition so there’s no chime and no dash lights.
When this happens the battery is completely dead in the morning. I’m trying to determine if this is normal behavior. The dome light and the floor lights appear to turn themselves off, but something else must stay on, maybe the CEM or DIM or even the Door Module that is drawing more than a couple of amps.
Does this sound normal? I know in my wife’s 2014 Toyota the battery will not drain if a door is left open, but that’s apples and oranges.
I’m picturing this happening on a camping trip or some other outing and having to really scramble to get home, rather than in my driveway where I can put the charger on it or swap the battery with my other car.

Its a good teaching moment for new drivers to be systematic about how they close up a car and make sure it is asleep.

Ive had the same issues with cars in the Volvo, BMW, and VAG world - sometimes they sleep ok, other times, something stays awake and kills the battery.

#rant - engineering stuff to avoid mistakes just leads to exotic problems, lets not replace training with engineering. Both are good and are necessary.

I can’t tell you how many times I have jumped my M-I-L’s Civic sedan. She leaves the door ajar, the trunk lid open, a dome light on..... I have to hand push it out of her little garage to access the battery.

I got a jump box plus decent jumper cables, worry no more.

some new cars will not lock if a door is ajar, its a good idea. I leave my car door open in my garage when im working on it and everything appears to go sleep, if you wait long enough you can hear the relays shutting off power one by one.
