Removing accumulator on high pressure tube of Evap. 98V70AW
Removing accumulator on high pressure tube of Evap. 98V70AW
Anybody else have trouble removing the accumulator for the evaporator on their A/C? The fellow who tried to do it on mine couldn't get it out, only part of it so he tried to force another one in. Not smart. I've tried to hook it out, drill ( by hand) to loosen, wire hooks, screws etc. Maybe I can put air pressure on other tube? I don't have any other ideas before replacing the entire evap. Car has 159000

Not sure what part you are talking about...this is the accumulator on your car:

Based on what you described I don't think we are talking about the same part. It's nowhere near the evaporator...in fact nothing is near the evaporator except the send & return lines. Also, the evaporator is on the low pressure circuit, not the high pressure side of the system.

Thanks for responding Chuck. I probably do have the terms wrong. On the pasenger (rt) side firewall there are two tubes going to evaporator in cabin. The larger diameter one on the left(nearest fender) has a plastic tube in it with o-rings and fine mesh screen, +- 3"long. That was what the mechanic said was bad. He couldn't or didn't get it out in one piece so he jammed another one in-- it wouldn't work. I got that one out in one piece but so far have not been able to get the rest of the old one. Any idea's? thanks again, MK. 98V70AWD, 160000

Ah, now I get it
That's a compound line -- rigid portion and crimped flexible termination at the evap end. Unfortunately, no way to repair it. You'll need to replace it.
Not being in front of the car I can't say for sure, but it's one of the two evaporator lines listed at this page. You may want to shop around, but I do get almost all my parts from FCP...you can call them if you need to verify exactly which part you need.

After repair your system also needs to be pumped-down and refilled...find a good a/c shop to do that for you, don't try to refill an empty a/c system with the wal-mart cans...
