Hello folks,
I am looking on instructions on how to properly use the Camshaft Locking Tool.
I cannot find instructions on how to really use it. I have a 2001 Volvo V70XC and
about to replace my seals, timing belt and water pump.
cheers.

dont force it, they are offset its trial and error. you will feel when its fitted correctly. you will need washers/spacers or cut the bolts, measure how much thread the camshaft sensor bolt threads in.
the swivel latch part with allen key bolt goes at the top and is "meant" to clamp the top of the valve cover to hold the camshafts to the cover, however i found mine needed to be filed to fit, ignore it for just locking the camshaft
EDIT dont cut the bolts because the threads are the same, i found some better bolts in my bucket of bolts.

Don't over-tighten those, you may break the bolt inside the camshaft. Don't under-tighten it either, or you'll break the camshaft while doing a final torque of the VVT hub bolt.

Otherwise locking is pretty straightforward. Setting the VVT hubs back is more challenging until you understand everything.

Wow, it broke? Doesn't the tool have a torque? Will be hard to know what will be too much or too little torque..vtl wrote: ↑24 Sep 2021, 10:49 Don't over-tighten those, you may break the bolt inside the camshaft. Please, would you have the instruction on how to mount the tool? Mine does not come with one. I have been searching the web and can't find how to actually mount it on. If you have any link, please pass my way; I am stuck and don't want to guess on how to.
Thanks a bunch!

I am in the same level of hell as you right now. For the locking tool, do like Robert in the video above: take the tool apart, attach each side of the tool to a cam, then pull the two side of the tool together and fasten it. Once those two arms are attached to each other, the cams will be aligned.
In my case, i cheaped out and bought the tool from Amazon, and the bolts were the wrong length. And the holes for the bolt that hold the tool together are misaligned! I ended making a spacer out of some old nuts to make the bolts fit int the cams. And I used a 3" steel clamp to hold the tool together. What a mess. But it works!

follow the recommended torque setting for the camshaft sensor, i think its pretty low. Theres no need overtighten the bolt, it just needs to stop the camshaft from rotating, let the key slot do the work. All these tools are made from the same factory in China, thats why there are no instructions, sellers could write something up put like a jig saw puzzle instructions would just ruin the fun.
